Blog: Election Day

November 6, 2008

This Blog was written by Ross on Tuesday 04th November 2008, but posted on Thursday 06th of November. Barack Obama has since been confirmed as America's new president-elect.

Today the American public are voting for a new president, and the odds look in favour of a President Obama. The arrival of a new president is likely to herald the end of "free market capitalism", as we have known it, and will probably herald the arrival of a new form of "state influenced capitalism" where individual states try to work together to agree a common financial structure. "Try" is the operative word!

The history of states working together is not so good. Conflict is still as much a part of human nature as peaceful co-habitation. I look forward, as an interested by-stander, to see how things pan out.

I believe that a lot of artists, by the nature of their occupation, have developed parts of the brain which "see the whole picture" in much greater clarity than the general populace who are schooled by a curriculum which concentrates on sequential detail. One of these days, enlightened businesses will seek the advice of artists and other creative thinkers in order to formulate better policies. Maybe then they can avoid the financial hardships caused by lack of creativity and an undue reliance on 'bean counters'.

My solo exhibition at the View Gallery commences tomorrow, and I am informed that our book 'Ross - A Journey into Art' has been printed and will be dispatched from the publishers shortly. I can now concentrate on finishing up the paintings for my upcoming solo exhibition at the Infusion Gallery in LA. An exhibition that is greatly influenced by current events.
