Blog: Exhibition at Art Decor Whalley

March 30, 2008

At the moment a lot of my energy is being directed towards my upcoming solo exhibition at the Art Decor Gallery in Whalley ( on May 01st. Preparing for an exhibition is always challenging and an opportunity to try and push the boundaries of my art.

I don't have an overall "Master Plan" for an exhibition, I just try to group my ideas, which usualy leads to a series of paintings expressing a certain theme. This could be "traditional" or "evolutionary"-----------as long as I am painting, I am perfectly content to paint anything.

Building forms are an obvious subject for a series - a reflection of my architectural years. I enjoy "drawing" in the paint. Nature and natural forms are a great source of inspiration, as is the Universe, which is the subject of my latest series of works. I never run out of ideas!

I require a much larger painting space at the moment as my action painting is becoming messy. It is surprising how far paint will travel when launched from the tip of a fast moving palette knife. A domestic environment is hardly enhanced by unplanned projectile art-----------------
