Blog: 2007 Christmas Blog

December 12, 2007

It’s that time of the year again, when time for family and friends takes priority over painting matters. Painting time is squeezed between shopping trips, visiting and time given to various other family activities in the run up to Christmas---------I find that by rising early in the morning, I am able to get quite a bit of painting done before breakfast and a long walk afterwards puts me in a refreshed state of mind for the rest of the day. Yesterday’s walk in the Ribble Valley was in beautiful winter sunshine, with temperatures a few degrees above freezing. The countryside looked stunning in the watery light. The River was high after recent rains and the only occasional traffic was generated by farmers going about their daily business. In years gone by, the silence of all but natural life would have created a tranquillity which seems to have deserted us in this age – what stood out on this occasion was the considerable volume of noise created by traffic on the M6 Motorway, located several miles away. I would like to thank my wife Maura and daughter Dawn for all their support, for me and my art, in 2007. I also wish to say a big “thank you” to my Galleries and collectors worldwide and wish you all a Happy Christmas and a healthy 2008
