Blog: Edinburgh

November 19, 2007

It’s over 40 years since I last visited Edinburgh. I thought I would remember the city. I had these imprinted images in my mind. The reality was quite different and I was surprised how little I was visually able to remember from previous visits. It only confirmed suspicions that the storage devices in the mind are hardly to be compared with those in the computer. Maybe reality, is only what I perceive it to be? (Don’t think about it – just paint!!)------ ------This grand old city hasn’t changed a lot. The magnificent old Forth Railway Bridge is still there, its form partly obscured by maintenance wrapping. It is now joined by the Queensferry motorway bridge. The modern art museum was worth a visit and it is a pity I couldn’t stay for the Arts Fair later in the month. My painting gear remained unused for the duration of my trip and I will have to resort to the camera for a reminder of some of the subjects I now wish to get down on canvas……….
