Blog: Memories of York

October 25, 2007

A recent re-visit to the city of York has been an inspiration for me. I tramped the city walls and the narrow streets. The great minster is a magnificent building and a reminder of the many beautiful cathedrals I have visited. Over the past few days I have been walking around Dublin City and Dun Laoghaire seafront, taking in the atmosphere and enjoying the sunshine! The new website is up and running – thanks to everyone involved for their hard work! At the moment I am spending quite a bit of time drafting my memoirs, with a view to publishing a book in the near future. I suppose most artists possess a good visual memory. I seem to recall travel details and other visually recorded events from 50 years ago or more with great clarity. Conversely, my mind cannot take in the simplest of things such as telephone numbers, appointments and other everyday matters. The painting takes discipline, time and more effort than I am inclined to acknowledge. I am so absorbed in a painting that, when I finish, I often have to lie down for several minutes just to level my head. I can then put my mind on other mundane matters such as washing brushes, putting caps on tubes of paint and generally tidying up. Then I am back into reality!! I now need to order more art materials
